PRACTICAL PERSPECTIVES ON POULTRY MANAGEMENT, BIOSECURITY AND PRODUCTION IN THE AMAZON

Poultry farming is a key component of global food production, requiring the integration of nutrition, biosecurity, incubation, environmental management, and animal welfare to ensure productive efficiency and sustainability. This chapter reviews the main management practices adopted in commercial poultry production and relates current scientific evidence to practical activities performed during a supervised internship at a commercial poultry farm in Amazonas, Brazil. Special attention is given to the influence of tropical environmental conditions on bird performance and to the importance of biosecurity, thermal comfort, nutrition, and precision management strategies. The internship provided practical experience that reinforced the application of technical knowledge and highlighted the importance of evidence-based management for efficient and sustainable poultry production.
