The world population is expected to grow by around 15% in numbers over the next 30 years from an estimated 7.8 billion people to 9.2 billion by 2050. The biggest concern is how to increase food production without increasing impacts of agriculture and livestock on the environment. Animal manure generated in this context is a rich source of organic matter and nutrients for agricultural production, but mismanagement has negative impacts on planet earth, causing emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants. In this sense, this work aims to present a literature review showing the main additives used in slurry acidification, their uses and applications, the characteristics of mud separation techniques (solid-liquid) and the existing adoptions for the correct and effective use by the farmer of the existing technology and the proper use of organic matter (animal waste), thereby contributing to the reduction of the environmental impact of the atmosphere.
