    Resumo

Objective: To analyse the main environmental impacts caused by conventional agricultural practices, as well as their effects on soil, water and agrobiodiversity, in order to understand the relevance of the agroecological transition. Method: We started with the following questions: What are the impacts on natural environments [palaeodunes] and societies caused by conventional agricultural practices? What are the paths and benefits that lead to the need to implement an agro-ecological transition? he target audience of the research was made up of riverside farmers who live around the palaeodune areas in the municipality of Casa Nova/BA, and for this, the dialectical method was used as a parameter, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, this being basic research, but also bibliographical and field research. Results: The findings indicate the extent of the impacts, not only environmental but also social, as well as the urgent need for an agro-ecological transition, with the aim of establishing sustainable agricultural practices and the use of restorative technologies, especially in paleodune territories with a high degree of environmental vulnerability. Conclusion: Agriculture, by its very nature and characteristics, exerts permanent pressure on natural resources and is one of the human activities that has the greatest impact and requires incessant human intervention. Agricultural production in Brazil has been degrading its floristic, soil and water resources, and the great challenge to be overcome is the implementation of an agroecological transition, where sustainable practices become the basis of the production process, thus reducing impacts on agrobiodiverse systems.
