GEOMECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ROCK MASS IN THE "BALCÓN DE ORO" MINE

Objective: To characterize the geomechanical properties of the rock mass in the "Bal-cón de Oro" mine using laboratory tests, on-site evaluations and advanced technological tools to establish its structural quality and design support measures. Methods: laboratory tests such as UCS, point load and tilt test were performed, in addition to field evaluations using the Set method. Barton's Rock Mass Rating and Q ratings allowed the quality of the massif to be categorized. DIPS and Unwedge software were also used to analyze discon-tinuities and model the stability of the massif. Results: The evaluated areas showed solid qualities that vary from moderate to good, with specific Sets reaching RMR values >70, indicating high stability, while other areas registered values below 60, requiring specific support designs. Conclusion: The study concludes that the combination of technological tools and traditional methodologies is crucial for the accurate characterization of the rock mass and for safe and efficient mine planning.
