EVALUATION OF THE MEDICINAL POTENTIAL OF PSIDIUM GUAJAVA LEAF EXTRACTS BASED ON BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS AND PATENT PROSPECTING.

Given the ethnomedicinal use of Psidium guajava L. leaf extracts and the worldwide distribution of the species have sparked interest in the development of phytotherapeutic agents. Objective: This study aimed to review the patents and the specialized databases EPO, WIPO, and INPI in which P. guajava leaf extracts have been used for pharmaceutical formulation. Opportunities for developing products with P. guajava leaf extracts were evaluated. Methods: Information from recent scientific production was collected, with bibliometric analysis in the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Results: Bibliometric analysis and technological prospecting showed that P. guajava leaf extracts have broad biological activity, and the most frequent ones were related to antimicrobial and antiallergic activities. Conclusion: Examination of international patent databases and evaluation of recently published studies contributed to this assessment considering national-level analysis and decision-making on future inventions.
