Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), mainly affecting the lungs, but can manifest itself in other organs. It stands as a major contributor to global morbidity and mortality due to increasing resistance to traditional antibiotics. In this context, thiosemicarbazones class of ligands have received attention in research due to their remarkable antimicrobial activity. Conjugation of thiosemicarbazone ligands with metal ions allows the creation of new compounds with different substituent groups, influencing their antimicrobial activity and selectivity. Despite their activity, the mechanisms of action of these metal complexes and the assessment of their toxicity and pharmacokinetics can be further explored. In this context, this mini review highlights the importance of thiosemicarbazones and their metal complexes as potential metallodrugs treatments for TB of the last five years, emphasizing the continued need for research in this critical area of global public health.
